The lung transplant program at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health performs over 45 lung transplants annually and boasts some of the shortest wait times in the region. The lung transplant program also conducts a variety of clinical research studies with the goal of advancing lung transplant care and improving the outcomes of future lung transplant recipients.
The lung transplant program is currently a site for several NIH-funded, multi-center, observational studies as a part of a consortium. There are several more industry-sponsored studies that are in the negotiations and regulatory phase.
In additional to clinical research, several labs at UW SMPH are conducting bench research to better understand lung disease progression at a cellular level and how this relates to the need for lung transplantation and complications in transplant recipients.
